One of the biggest mistakes I think people make is waiting until they know how to do something before they begin. This is especially a problem in our information-rich world. If you hesitate, if you wait until you are fully qualified to begin, it might be too late. Get going now!

Especially in my field of computer technology, we are always learning as we go. This stuff is moving so fast, you are always playing catch up. The best that you can do is to always be learning. That’s why I like the Pablo Picasso quote that goes like this:
Don’t wait for permission. Don’t wait until you feel qualified. Dive in and start doing it. The best computer/tech people don’t let the excuse of “I don’t know how to do that” get in the way. The best computer people I know have a big collection of self-taught knowledge. The best computer people do things they don’t already know how to do on a regular basis. If you are doing things you don’t already know how to do, you are doing it right.
This post really hit home for me! I am a Secondary Education/English student at the University of South Alabama and I am in an EDM 310 class that has really taught me to learn as I go. Before taking this class, I had probably never read a blog, much less created my own and regularly posted. We do a lot with different technology for education purposes and one of the things we talk about is the fact that as educators we must always be learning because the technology is always changing. It’s always been hard for me to admit I didn’t know how to do something and so I have had a tendency to avoid things I don’t understand or know. I am learning to jump right in and figure things out for myself as I go. There’s no telling what you can do if you don’t get out and try!
My name is Ashley Howell and I am student in EDM310 at the University of South Alabama. I really enjoyed this blog post because I am a firm believer in trying and exploring new things even if you are unsure how to do them. Trying new things whenever there is uncertainty is how you learn. We all learn from our own mistakes. I believe that some of the best knowledge is self-taught knowledge. It’s important that we take risks and dive into new things, even if we don’t know what we are doing. I really enjoyed that Pablo Picasso quote.
